Wow, thanks for stopping by Fern and Sarah! It is great to hear the story behind the cookies. I'm sorry to hear that Dorothy passed away but she left quite a mark, even on people who never met her!

This cookie recipe came from a collaboration of my mother, Dorothy Demke, and myself, Sarah Gerard. I'm her daughter. They brought us a lot of fame. I also had a bakery in Los Angeles and Gourmet printed the recipe in 1990 and credited it to my bakery. They also included it in the December 2008 edition of favorite cookies from 1941 to 2008. The cookies were also written about and appeared on television more than once. They have been copied and sold by many. I consider it a compliment, except when others try to take credit for the recipe. Dorothy sold Some Crust along with the recipes several years ago. She died last year but her memory lives on with her wonderful recipes and the bakery she created and loved. It's all about the butter!

My Grandmother worked for Dorthy, the original owner, of some rust. She worked there about 15 years. Every Christmas we were sent a box of cookies from the bakery. Snickerdoodles, Mocha chocolate chips, chocolate chips, peanutbutter, etc. They freeze realy well. When I was about 3 or 4 I "worked" at the bakery a few times helping shape bear claws or add to the mix. Dorthy would pay me $1 for my days wage. :) I used to get my birthday cakes from there. A white cake with a marzipan elephant. Because of that bakery my grandma was titled the cookie grandma. When I read Joanne Fluke books, this is the bakery I envision in the books. The Mocha cookies have always been my favorite.

I never trust ovens to keep accurate temperature. Try buying a cheap oven thermometer at the grocery store. Mocha cookies look yummy but might keep me awake!
